Korridor / Corridor

Dismantling of Corridor

On 6 November 2015, Lars Breuer, Sebastian Freytag and Guido Münch ‒ the artists comprising the Konsortium ‒ and five helpers removed the cladding panels and stored them for removal, which happened on 10 November after the substructure had been dismantled by employees of the company Nolte Ingenieur Holzbau GmbH. The temporary art work Korridor / Corridor on the Moltkeplatz is thus history.

The Südanzeiger carried a picture of the dismantling on 14 November 2015; see here.

Finissage

On 1 November 2015, a finissage was held to bid farewell to the temporary work Korridor / Corridor by the artist group Konsortium. Korridor / Corridor had been on display at the sculpture park Moltkeplatz for almost a year and will be dismantled in the next few weeks as agreed. Despite many other events, more than 60 visitors followed the invitation of the association Kunst am Moltkeplatz KaM e.V. to have a last view of this fifth work in the series junge Kunst am Moltkeplatz / young Art at the Moltkeplatz. In sunny autumn weather, they experienced an interesting round of talks, starting with an introduction by KaM.

The exchange of ideas was led by Harald Goebell. The focus was on the work Korridor / Corridor by the three artists Lars Breuer, Sebastian Freytag and Guido Münch and on their further ideas. Afterwards there was the possibility to exchange ideas in the beautiful surroundings of the sculpture park. The WAZ had invited to the finissage on 28 October 2015; see here; and the Südanzeiger on 31 October here.

Leporello folder on Korridor / Corridor

On 15 May 2015, a Leporello folder on Korridor / Corridor was published. The final size (folded) is DIN A 5 landscape; it is made up of eight pages. The printing was done in black and white on heavy cardboard. For a picture of the leporello, see here. For a (German) text contribution by the curator Dr Marcel Schumacher see here.

The folder has been entered into the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek / German National Library ‒ see here ‒ and into the catalogue of the Nordrhein-Westfälische Bibliographie der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek / Northrhine-Westfalia bibliography of the University and State Library Düsseldorf ‒ see here. It is also available from the association Kunst am Moltkeplatz KaM e.V.; contact here.

Vernissage

On 30 November 2014 there was the vernissage for Korridor / Corridor. Dr Marcel Schumacher (Curator for Contemporary Art, Museum Folkwang) provided the introduction to the work. Afterwards there was the possibility to get together in the parish hall of the SELK church at Moltkeplatz.

For a picture of the invitation poster see here.

For his introduction to the work, Dr Marcel Schumacher writes as follows:

„The lawn, the rows of trees, sculptures in between, passers-by stroll past, the center of the public space of Moltkeplatz is usually empty … The outdoor installation of the artist group Konsortium breaks up this everyday idyll: On the lawn they have erected an installation of two wall wedges, a piece of architecture taller than man…“ Full text (in German) here.

Installation of Korridor / Corridor

On 14 November 2014 the wooden structure of Korridor / Corridor was set up. During the subsequent time ‒ thru 30 November ‒ the artist trio Konsortium designed and created the outer walls of Korridor / Corridor.

First, a specialist timber company erected the parts of the wooden construction, securely connected all components and anchored them in the ground. The artists of the Konsortium as well as KaM members and supporters helped with the planking using sheathing panels. This was followed by the first coating of paint. By nightfall, this initial work on the construction of the new temporary work was completed.

Artist talk

On 30 October 2014, a public artist talk was held with the artist trio Konsortium (announced by the WAZ on 29 October 2014 here). Unfortunately, due to illness, the curator Dr Marcel Schumacher from the Museum Folkwang had to cancel his participation at short notice.

In the talk, the artist trio informed about previous works and presented both their thoughts and ideas on the planned work Korridor / Corridor for the Moltkeplatz, and some drafts. The event provided the participants ‒ who completely filled the parish hall of the SELK church ‒ with the opportunity to ask further questions and to discuss matters with the artists. For a WAZ/NRZ article of 4 November 2014 about this event here.
