Opening 11 October 2020

On 11 October 2020, the opening of the work Atlanten by Christian Odzuck was held. As the eighth work in the series junge Kunst am Moltkeplatz / young Art at the Moltkeplatz it will be exhibited in the sculpture park until September 2021. Invitation card here and here, poster here.

More than 120 persons had accepted the invitation to the opening and were able to engage with the work and exchange views with the artist Christian Odzuck and the curator Dr Anna Fricke and others … in largely sunny „Golden October“ weather. After the welcome by KaM e.V., Franz-Josef Britz, Mayor of Essen, delivered greetings from the city of Essen, followed by Gerd Mahler, who as chairman of the Jury Art in Public Spaces, pointed out the importance of art in public spaces. Afterwards, Anna Fricke introduced the artist and outlined the work Atlanten ‒ including its history of creation over several years.

Hygiene rules during the Corona pandemic necessitated the use of personal protective measures and the observance of greater distances in the sculptures park.

The opening had been announced by ‒ among others ‒ WAZ/NRZ on 9 October 2020 here or here, Lintorfer here, Welt der Form here (scroll down to „Enddatum bis Sep. 2021″). Reports in Stadtspiegel Essen-Süd on 13 October 2020 here. Press release of the city of Essen on 13 October 2020 here.

Tankred Stachelhaus has provided a blog entry on Atlanten here.
